AR XA motor noisy

Hi all,

I have an early AR XA turntable that is a dual motor setup. The main drive motor has started to get noisy and I am wondering what my best option is?

I believe I would need different pulley diameters if I switch to a motor from a newer single motor XA.

Oil goes a long way to reducing that noise. I've never had a 2 motor XA but I have reduced the noise on the single motor jobs to reasonable levels from very annoying. You add oil at the top and run it for hours, if not days, and it works wonders. My usual oil is a good synthetic 10w30 but I am sure others have their own flavours.

Yes, you will need to get the proper pulley for a single motor. As the single motor runs at a different RPM. Good original Haydon 1.5W motors can be had.
usually to insure getting a good motor, folks are using the Hurst 3001-001 motor which can be bought new. However, those are somewhat a crapshoot in noise also. I did recently service a table with a new Hurst, and it was very quiet. On the other hand, I have a new Hurst motor in enventory that sounds like a weedwacker.

I have oiled it and ran it for probably 3 - 4 hrs. I will try the more extended period. I used regular 3 in 1 oil, should I use something fancier?

@ Marcmorin, do you have a good Haydon 1.5w motor and the proper pulley you may be interested in selling?

I have considered buying one of the sound of the wood motors but for basically $250 once I pay for shipping and duty to get it up here to Canada I will only consider that option as a last resort.
