AR XA turntable score?

I found a AR XA turntable sitting in a shop. The owner said it's been sitting for a while and that he's asking 75 for it. The veneer on the plinth is peeling a tiny bit. Not enough to detract from the table. It turns on and the platter spins... is this table a good buy? I was going to see if he would do 50 for it since he admitted it's been there forever and the fact that he doesn't know exactly what's wrong with it.... what do you guys think?

Great tables, very musical.

I used one for about 20 years.

$75 is a good price, especially if it's CND.

Thanks for the input guys... I ended up grabbing it for 60 CND... got it home and it turns out nothing is wrong with it. The table is stock with an AT130E cart. I'm going to clean it up and hook it up and post some pictures. Will probably coat it with linseed oil and see what it looks like. If I don't like it I'll probably redo the veneer

If the veneer is vinyl I wouldn't put any kind of oil on it.

As for the table, good score. A $15 garage sale AR XA was my primary table for 20yrs, even my Thorens TD166MKII played second fiddle. It wasn't until I purchased a TOTL Kenny that my loved AR was taken out of rotation, it now spins vinyl in my sons house.

I had an AR Morin-ified and my other 20 turntables haven't been exercised in quite a while.... I worry about atrophy... Do it !
