AR XB-1 Replacement Motor

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help. After a couple of thrilling weeks resurrecting my AR XB-1, the motor has just died. It was taking a while to come up to speed, but now it won't.
Can someone help me with directions to a replacement motor?

Many thanks,

John

When you say resurrected did you do any work on the motor?

If not Id first look at cleaning it the easy way by adding oil to the motor shaft after you remove
the pulley. Add oil and let it run for a while, use a tissue to clean up any oil around the spindle.
It will probably be dirty, repeat the process a few times till the oil eventually is clean.
then let it run overnight. Use tissue again to see if the oil is dirty again and add more drops.

After that you should be good to go.

If you use talc on the belt (like the owner's manual suggests) it will let the belt slip a bit at start up, taking some of the initial torque off of the motor, allowing it to come to full speed without any help. This is what I do and the motor needs no help in getting going.

Thank you to all who offered advice. When I "resurrected" it, the platter wouldn't turn at all! As, in at all. So, we opened the (unopened) bottle of oil, and oiled the motor, but not enough, it would seem. So, yesterday, the platter wouldn't turn, even though the motor was going. So more oil, and now it comes up to speed, and seems to spinning at the correct RPM. I have a new belt, and all seems well. And, with my Shure Realistic RXT-4 with the new HE stylus, it sounds fantastic!

If you have a speed issue, you might want to flip the thrust washer (Delrin) at the bottom of the bearing well. It may well have formed a divot in it after all of these years (from use).

Doesn't sound like a motor problem to me. Could've been a severely worn belt. Could be corrosion in the platter well bogging down the platter. If it acts up again look into spinning the platter by hand with no belt. It should spin freely and easily and should take some time to come to rest.
