AR2 Ax speakers worth re-foaming?

Yes... I heard the sound of deposits in my bank account when I sold them. :D They have their merits...and their shortcomings. I'll buy 'em all day long of their cheap enough...hen resell them.

And yes. They are worth reforming.

no. send them to me and I will "recycle" them for you. :D

but seriously, its worth it especially if you do it yourself. its easy to do and cheap. $20 for AR-anything is a steal.

but seriously, if you just send them to me I'll have it done professionally and then I won't have to explain why I suck at diy so much.:D

Classic AR will sound better than most made in China crap today :D

My AR4x's (all of $75) are second only to my Klipsch Fortes. They are a truly amazing speaker, their voice is perfect to me. Slightly wooly but still very clear and concise. Well-rounded and warm would be an apt description. I just love them so much, Sansui 8080DB is powering them, so wonderfully. It's a tonal match made in sonic heaven.:music:

Anybody here try those budapest2 foams on these? How did they work out? Only $10 a pair shipped.

Yes, I've used them on AR2ax speakers before and I have found that they are not compliant enough for this type of application causing the bass response to suffer. My Audio Addiction, Rick Cobb or the Boston Acoustic style surrounds from Madisound (no affiliation) are the proper surrounds for these. Don't go the cheap route here, trust me I made that same mistake on my Advents too and had to tear the new foams off and re-do them with the correct thin compliant ones.

tonyk- tom's simply staying true to form

Opinions were solicited and I gave mine. I criticize speakers I don't like and praise those I do, simple enough. And I don't look at hi-fi gear in terms of it's monetary value or if it's a "score" as so many around here do. If I don't like the way a speaker sounds it's of no use to me, seems reasonable enough.

Or even dirty power, I ran mine with a few unrestored Heathkit W5M's and was amazed. It's not an accurate speaker but it sure is fun.

Hmmm....I find mine to be pretty darn accurate. The separation and clarity is quite refreshing. Nice soundstage. Then again, lately I've been really impressed by my recently acquired DCM CX-17's insofar as soundstage goes. :thmbsp: So maybe my bar aint so high :scratch2:.

no sweat, I appreciate hearing your opinion as obviously your farther along in your audio journey than I am. But just to remind everyone, the op simply asked if they were worth refoaming. Speakers can be worth repairing for both sound or monetary value.

The irony is I sold my pair of 2ax's the weekend this thread originally appeared, I enjoyed them for a summer, but it was time to move on. I got what I asked for them and they sold quick.
