AR2A and AR4X Potentiometer Replacements?

Hi,

I have 2 pairs of AR4X's and 1 Pair of AR2A speakers all seem to have issues with the pots. I don't have anytime to do cleaning of the OEM parts, but I would like to just drop in new Pots. There is so much information about cleaning and restoration, that I am some what confused and lost on what I should.

Any help is much appreciated

Cleaning these pots can be very effective as one measure of restoring these speakers, but it can be a real PITA, and it might provide only spotty results afterwards..... plus the OP has eight of them! That said, I do tend to clean and restore original AR pots for my speakers unless they are just too crusty, but I am beginning to tire of this process.

One inexpensive and satisfactory alternative is to replace the pots with 8 ohm L-pads, which may or may not require an additional resistor to replicate the original performance. Lots more info available at Classic Speaker Pages.

I have read cleaning the POTs can have spotty results, so I think I will try the replacement parts from VintageAR and see what I get. I will keep the original POTs and attempt (at a later date) to clean them.

It's always nice to support Vintage AR, but you can probably save some $$ if you purchased the components direct from Parts Express, Madisound, or other electronics supplier. Show some pics when you get a chance, and good luck.
