AR4ax Vintage Speakers...Thoughts?

For what it's worth, the 4s in their various forms are among the best looking speakers ever made, in my opinion. The proportions are perfect.
 
I had a nice pair of AR4X for several years, and thoroughly enjoyed them after recap, redope, pot restore, and oiled cabinets. They're true bookshelf speakers and sound so nice. I can't remember why I sold them but I shouldn't have.

I just refurbished a pair of AR-5s that had felt pads on them. Saturate the felt pad with some lighter fluid (I used Ronsonol) and they should slide or peel right off. Any residual adhesive should come off with a little lighter fluid on a rag.
 
I'll probably keep my 4x pair forever as nostalgia if nothing else, AR was truly the gamechanger "small" full-range loudspeaker in the timeline of loudspeaker development at the beginnings of the stereophonic era.
 
I’m really enjoying these speakers, driven by an ST-70, PAS and vinyl. The midrange and quality of the bass is spot on. They may not win an objective ‘audiofool’ test because the soundstage, detail, whatever might not be the best. What I’m hearing somehow draws me in and creates an enjoyable listening experience. Last night we put on Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim and my wife commented on how much she enjoyed listening. I will say that the soundstage is deep and I’m getting good separation between instruments. Rectilinear XIIs, Dyna A25s and yes Rogers JR 149s somehow don’t create that experience. The JRs come closest, but the low end is limited and sounds goosed a bit to sound fuller but it doesn’t sound as natural. She had been ridiculing me about switching them out and told me the Rectilinears would win out, but was won over.
They are on heavy 24” steel stands, 6’ apart on the long wall of an 11 x 13 room.
