ARC control for non-ARC devices

Hello,

I just purchased the Sony X900e and don't want a large HT receiver for my simple 2.1 setup, so I got the SMSL SA-50 PLUS. The receiver does great, and can easily power my setup to crazy volumes.

The issue is remotes. The Sony remote is huge and has a host of very specific buttons, the SMSL remote is horrible and tiny. I know I could drop $200 on a Harmony, but all I really want is to have the Sony remote control the volume to the SMSL amp like my previous LG TV controlled the volume to my Polk soundbar. The Sony has an IR blaster, but the SMSL is not on the compatibility list.

Is there some 3rd party device that can capture the ARC signal and have the TV remote dynamically control the volume?

I hope this makes sense, the terminology around this is confusing to me and I've never had to deal with this issue before.

Do you have a smart phone?

I'm sure that would work, but we really want to have a physical remote so we don't have to get out our phone to just watch TV.

Sony remotes work Sony gear at most.
