I encountered an ARC SP6 yesterday that appears to have what I can best describe as tube doublers. The main board at a glance looked original, but plugged into each socket was a board that contained two 9 pin sockets, each with a 12AX7. Didn't study the wiring of these boards but I'm guessing its running the sections in parallel. Effectively the 6 tube preamp is now a 12 tube preamp. A quick scan through ARCDB doesn't seem to show this as any factory modification. Does anyone know what might be going on here?
Not mine, not working on it, just curious what I was looking at.
