Arcam Alpha 5 Plus CD Drawer Question

Hi,

I've been slowly repairing a Arcam Alpha 5+ CD player and have a question about a slight strain noise when opening the CD drawer. Basically it sounds like the tray motor continuing to run for a second or so when the drawer is fully open. This doesn't occur when the tray is closed.

I'm wondering if there are any other owners with the same CD player who can confirm the operation?

Everything works and I have no other issues - I'm just concerned that I missed cleaning a limit switch or if I'm just being paranoid.

Thanks!

BTW, if your unit is sensitive to skipping - I stuffed the rubber isolation grommets under the CD transport with about 3-4 mm of very soft earplug foam 'slices' to prop up the mechanism and the skipping stopped.

As you mention there's a limit switch and it and the gear train can become worn or out of adjustment to allow the motor to run on and hit the physical limits of the rack or whatever. A second of run on is a long time though maybe the CPU is timing out the eject and not receiving the limit switch signal. Worth checking out.

The arcam has a dodgy gear where the plastic degrades and teeth fall off but normally that prevents the tray from working at all.

Apparently the limit switch is only used on the tray load and is only timed on the eject. While searching for CDM9 tray issues on another site, I found the problem is common and the solution was to put a resistor inline with the tray motor to slow it down. I will continue to investigate
