Paul Harvey had a great afternoon gig for years, when I was a delivery driver I tuned in every weekday and learned something new. The Bose Wave Radio Ads got kind of old after awhile.

I'm surprised AM radio doesn't have more talk shows outside of sports and politics, it's the perfect format. Personally I'd love a music channel with news on bands, tours, equipment, releases, gossip.

I listened to Paul Harvey from young until he died. Always enjoyed his news and comments, and the Rest Of The Story. I listened to Car Talk likewise for many years. Talk radio programming which was entertaining, classy, and enjoyable to listen to. An era which I wish we'd go back to. I wish we had new programs of this nature. Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me on NPR is a great program I recommend. It's humorous, witty take on current events is fun and always leaves me chuckling.

There were a lot of talk radio hosts I used….a long time ago…..to listen to and were enjoyable. But everything now has such a gd repetitious ad program there is no reason to listen for more than 20-30 minutes.
I used to listen to talk radio because they did that….TALK.
Now all it is if trial pain pills, a Local Cadillac dealer who thinks they are the only ones in town with tires, and other repeat ads.
Now all I listen to is about an hour in the morning of a local host, but even he has the BS incessant commercials.
I know they need revenue, but for me all they do by smothering the station with repeat ads is make me go back to other sources.
Just once I would like to see a station charge twice as much AND broadcast then half as many ads for every advertiser. The old days of top 40 and the so-called 17 minutes listening timeframe when every 15 minutes you would hear the repeat ad are gone, but some stations still persist.
Think about this. Does a TV advertiser who watches tv ever get annoyed watching the same commercials….and never think they do the same thing?

I remember his distinctive voice and radio personality from when I was a kid.

The Cassius Clay story was funny. Thanks for posting this.

Well, if we're going to do Paul Harvey this is one of his ranking broadcasts. I heard the broadcast on a local to me radio station, KFI clear channel CD station in Southern California. He was as speaking through the years as observer, commenting. What ever one might think it is the essential Paul Harvey.

I enjoyed Paul Harvey as a young man in the 70s. What a great and entertaining niche he carved out for himself. Talk radio was a wonderful artform. I enjoyed Talk Net, Roy Masters was crazy, but oddly entertaining. I also loved CBS Mystery Theater. The good old days...

Roy Masters had his moments and when he did they were great moments. I think everybody liked Paul Harvey, something for everybody without giving anything up. He was like a respite for the mind.

I used to listen to Gun Smoke, Dick Tracy, & Green Hornet on the car radio every Sunday afternoon. Great fun but ran the battery down a couple of times. Had to help push start the car Monday morning so dad could go to work. Finally got TV in 1958 but I still have fun memories of the excellent material on radio in those days. Paul Harvey was cool also.

Thanks, will enjoy hearing those again. We used to gather on lunch break while eating from lunchboxes and listening to his noon show over the radio.
