Are these Genuine Shures? Help please

Companies like Pfanstiehl and Fidelitone were not their competition, they were distribution partners who had relationships with non-equipment retailers. I worked at Record Bar part time for five years in the early 70's. We had a complete Pfanstiehl display and catalogue that we were able to accomodate due the smaller sized containers and the counter top display rack as opposed to the multipart boxes used by the manufacturers for sale by audio dealers who kept them in the back room.

Fidelitone was a major player in the manufacture of styli for a long time, along with Shure. Around 1970 Fidelitone phased out making stylus and switched to providing and servicing a retail system of replacement 'needles'. Having an established sales channel from their manufacture days was there reasoning for the transition. (source Billboard)

Reading and believing everything and you read on the internet and then repeating it as fact with no actual experience with a product will get you in trouble every time. So to the OP you can judge which opinions are which and move forward accordingly. This thread has become nothing if not typical.

Ok, I'm busted. Everything I posted IS from the internet. Source is scans of Fidelitone advertisments and press releases. Sorry, if am in 'trouble' for doing research that counters your inaccurate statement about Fidelitone history. I have no firm opinion on whether the OPs styli are 'genuine?', as he asked in the threads title. I hope they are real first quality Shure and he can enjoy them or sell them at a profit. I use a Shure V15III with Jico SAS, a great combination. Also, have used Shure products in the commercial Broadcast industry since 1976, both as on air 'talent' and engineering.

I have had fun searching for info and learning about both these companies and researching wether Shure and Fidelitone had a strictly distribution relationship, or if Fideliton was manufacturing parts with their refined diamond shaping equipment. But perusing this seems to be irritating you. I will not post in this thread again. If I have pissed off the OP or anyone else, that was not my intention and I am sorry. Bye.

You haven't irritated me in the least as my point is from the beginning that if you have never actually seen the product in question or used it then don't judge it. Also as I am sure you are aware Broadcast industry products are different than what is sold in a retail setting.

Well I know for a fact that the OP is only willing to agree with and believe when mostly two members tells him they are genuine Shure, regardless if it's true. So no point in any threads or knowledge to the contrary.

I have seen many genuine Shure stylis that they don't have their name on it.

In fact when they do have a name it's like what the OP has, it just IDs what that stylus is for when out of the packaging, this is aftermarket.

I have never see a Shure name on the V15 II stylus if the stylus was put out buy Shure ie: "Genuine Shure" the only print on it was Supper Track.

4-2-7:
Yes, Super Track on the guard- AND SHURE on the front of the grip. This was the only way the genuine VN15E was ever sold by Shure or by any of the aftermarket companies that repackaged them. Again, NO aftermarket replacement will have the Shure (or A-T, Empire, ADC, etc) name or any copyrighted logo (such as Super Track)- as that would infringe on their trademark. If you saw a VN15E with the Super Track guard and no Shure logo, then either the OEM guard was added to a generic stylus to replace one that was broken or missing, or was installed to deceive a buyer. It is also possible that the adhesive holding the Shure logo onto the grip had weakened from age and it simply fell off. The OPs VN15E styli are identical to every genuine OEM VN15E that I have sold over the last 30+ years (in both Shure and aftermarket packaging). Same goes for his N93E as well. I have no idea why many of you cannot get it through your heads that Shure (and all the other major brand mfgs) sold their product to secondary companies that repackaged and distributed them to retailers. This allowed retailers to file them in numerical order in the supplied drawer/display cabinets, This also enabled retailers to stock a complete lineup of styli purchased from a single source- without having to hold individual wholesale accounts with each and every manufacturer (and having to meet each supplier's minimum order requirements). Most, if not all of these secondary suppliers sold 2 lines- one for OEM styli and the other for aftermarket "generics". For example, Astatic sold genuine major brand styli in their brown packaging. Those would plainly state "A Genuine Product of Shure", or Empire Scientific, Pickering, etc, on the top tab. They also sold a line called NMR that were their own production with no stylus markings-these came in white packaging. Of course, every once in a while some "cross pollination" might take place where an OEM stylus was mistakenly placed in aftermarket packaging (and vice-versa). This, of course, does not change the fact that the styli that have major brand markings are authentic OEM production. The OP can rest easy- he got a nice deal on a few OEM Shures.

Strange world you`re living in 4-2-7, in my world it`s just the opposite.

Btw; here`s the place to buy replacements: http://www.adelcom.net/ShureStylus1.htm

Seminole: your comments make sense, but its still possible that Shure kept the best stylii for their own name brand products. Otherwise it seems to me that they would actually say 'made by Shure for Fideltone' or whatever, and wouldn't advertise dark insinuations about non Shure replacement stylii without exempting their partners.

Notice the Made or manufactured by Shure. in the first 3
Now look at the 4th it clearly states manufactured "to" specifications for (model #) which would make this stylus the infamous non Shure replacement.
That in itself should be enough to clear this up .

Nat:
Actually those "insinuations" as you put it were referring only to aftermarket replacements-NOT about their own genuine OEM product sold by secondary sources.
