Are these JBL 240ti speakers worth $895?

I've been trying to upgrade my cruddy old Cerwin Vega speakers for something warmer and prettier and came across these JBL 240ti speakers on craigslist. I've got a Marantz 2270 amp and listen to mostly 50s-60s jazz on vinyl.

The speakers look beautiful, but I have no experience with JBLs. Any advice? Thanks!

If the speakers are not too expensive, give them a try. I recently got some JBL LC310-1 which are 3 ways too. They sound incredible when I play jazz. The 14 inch woofer sound handle the low notes.

If memory serves, part of the value is the gorgeous wood and rounded corners used in the cabinets ...

I believe they are considered very nice,
Go have a listen and see if you like them ...

I eyeballed those this morning.

I think the drivers are the same as the L250 Ti,
They have woofer (LE14H-1)
The 044Ti tweeters
The 104H midrange


The woofer set would be $400 alone and the Ti tweeters are at least $325, mids $80

So are they worth it? yeah, make them an offer in person for 650-700

While not on top of the JBL heap they might be a lot better than your Cerwin Vega however they will like lots of power to get the best out of them. But for low level Jazz they might shine for you.

They've been up for a little while - waiting for the right buyer. Nino, you're looking for something a little more high fidelity than your CV's for 50's-60's jazz music (Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck)? On the one hand, the JBLs you found will likely excel at reproducing that music. The other side of the argument is that there are other, smaller and less expensive speakers that will also excel at that music. Examples include AR-4x, Snell Type K, most anything by ADS, the list goes on.

Point being, while those JBLs may be worth the price of admission, for that money you also have plenty of alternatives.

I understand that, just thought such heavy hitters would of be noticed by others. If they were not on the other side of the country I wouldn't hesitate.

I own an entire stable of JBLs--mostly the "big boys" and studio monitors--"warm" is not one of their characteristics--they throw down what you throw at them, and I use all high current/fairly high wattage SS amps. They are certainly "cleaner" than CVs, but "warmer" not so much, unless you change the front end a bit.

My Conrad Johnson PV-8 preamp helps tame the brightness on my 250ti's, but crisp highs they do have, especially with digital tracks. You don't see 240ti's often up for grabs, and those are very nice.
