Was lucky enough to get a pair of Acoustic Research AR-3A speakers over the weekend.

As a bonus, the owner threw in these stands, which seem to match perfectly. I' ve never seen them before.

Does anyone know if these were sold by AR originally - or aftermarket?

No, look on ebay. They are two pieces of walnut notched in the center so they slide together in the center to make an X with 4 legs on each end.

Those are nice though.

Great speakers too!

Yes, I'm aware of the 2 piece stands. These match so well, I was wondering if perhaps AR produced different styles.

Anything's possible, but I don't think those are from AR.
Went through Classic Speaker Pages and could only find one ad for stands and it was a square stand, flat on all sides. Couldn't find an ad with the 4-legged stand, which is the more common used one. Lot of documentation to look through.

AR advertised the four legged stand fairly widely and its aesthetic matches the speakers. I've never seen an ad for the stands you got, and more important, they just don't look at all right to me. I can't see anyone as concerned with proportion as Vilchur going with that extraneous curvature. So no.
Which doesn't mean they aren't just fine.

Ahh so you run the vintage hifi page on FB :)

Those stands are really nice, but I don't think they are original.

Ah - so you were the lucky one... I answered the ad within 20 mins, but apparently wasn't fast enough. They do look to be in wonderful condition - :thmbsp:

Hence the handle "Furious"? ;)
hey, i was nice enough to give him the thumbs up, wasn't i? LOL i was upset on sunday because i thought i had a pretty good shot at scoring these... but, the daughter shotgunned her dad's phone number to everyone in God knows what order...

my only consolation is that i spent the time i could have been driving to pick those babies up to finish my taxes... wait, that is a consolation, right??? :scratch2:

Yeah, that was a weird sale. Just got a text saying to contact a different number and I thought what the hell. Might as well try.

Woofers are original AR replacements by Tonegen. Some say these are better than the originals, at least equal is the consensus. Still need to refoam them though.

Seller was a man of few words, but I did find out he was the original owner.

cool. yeah, that was strange. at first i thought it was a total scam, but tried anyways... i probably missed out by not paying as close attention to my phone as i should have. yep, i also gathered that he was the original owner from his daughter. please post up more detailed pics if u can. i'd love to see them in all their glory!!!
