I came across these Cerwin Vega AT12 speakers. Dude wanted like $250. Got him down to $180, but I'm not sure about pulling the trigger on them. They appear to be in great shape from the pics. He said I could hear them first. Just don't want to over pay. Thought I would ask here first. I play the drums along with my fave tunes and although I wear headphones, I like to crank the stereo as well and wondering if these are worth it? Thank you for and advice you can give on these.

I would say yes , unfortunately the prices on CV speakers have jumped up quite a bit in the last year or so (been lookin for a set on the cheap myself) I'm sure others will chime in soon
 
Appear to be in really nice shape, and recently re-foamed (big bonus). At $180 I'd bite. As mentioned, CV prices are on the rise, so I doubt you could lose anything on them, should they not work out for you.
 
You had better jump on those bad boys right now! I have owned a pair for 20yrs and they are chest pumpers! They are very warm at low levels also at 90 bucks a piece they are well worth it for sure I would not take 180 each for mine!
 
you are looking at it from the back. buy them at asking, play (loud) for 5 years,
sell for $500. note, it's the $500 in 5 years. someone just paid you to play them.

dude, you don't want to post on AK, in about a year's time, that you missed buying AT12s
for $180. when they hit 400 an in worst shape, needing cabinet undinging, reveneering
the top, and the refoam thing.
 
Interesting comments. FWIW I bought my AT-12's new in 1989. Had them posted for 120 bucks 8 months ago and no takers. Gave them to my son. For what you want to do, they should work fine.

I grabbed those bad boys on my lunch break yesterday. All I can say is WOW!! I feel like I got a steal of a deal. These bad boys sound killa! Just blown away by the deal I got. Dude must have needed the cash because I got him down to $180 from $255. They are in great shape. 1 minor scratch is all. Not a big fan of the brown wood style cabinet but I'm not complaining one bit after hearing these. Exactly what I wanted for my drum room of doom. Thanks for the replys.
 
refoam? doesn't matter if the color is ORANGE. looks are everything.

post here on AK for sale in about 2 years for $500.

meanwhile look for D9s - pay under market. get $1k in 2 years.

If they're done right, you shouldn't be able to tell, and other than the longevity of the foams it doesn't matter. Refoaming is considered maintenance for the majority of speakers. Some rabid collectors may argue but most won't.
As mentioned, they do look like they've been done. Can you contact the guy and ask?
