"Are you guys serious about birthdays??"

I am.

:D

ps. Some of these guys are my friends, some I respect and some guys I just like.

I always put a personal spin on mine, trying to show that I sincerely mean the wish that they have a nice B'Day, these are for folks I've had a lot of interaction with, admired from afar, or would like to know better. If I've upset anyone by not posting on theirs I'm sorry! Mine is 8/10 and will show at the bottom of the page, feel free to slam me, flame me,YELL, give me presents:D

To everyone having a B'Day, have a good'un:thmbsp:

And to quote BBC's Ab Fab " I see no reason to celibrate the fact that you've lived for so Bloody long":yippy:

Peace Craig

Yea Man..Good on you!!.
I stopped counting , and seriously I have no Idea how old I am exacly.
Nice to see you all care!

Next Jan. 1st, I'm posting a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EVERYBODY!!:banana::beerchug::beerchug::rockon:

...and thereafter will consider myself exempt from birthday greetings for the duration.

That pretty much sums it up for me, too. :thmbsp: (And admit it... doesn't it feel good to get a little recognition for your Birthday? Don't you enjoy when others notice/remember? )

Exactly. It does feel pretty good to know that other members care enough to drop in and say Hey on your birthday.

(btw, stuwee, I was only kidding around with ya the other day in your Stewie b-day thread.:D)

I have gotten birthday greetings this year... Twice... and both times it wasn't my birthday (and wont be till September).

I found it rather entertaining. :D

I think it's a nice way to show the comraderie shared by many at AK. If you feel its a waste of time avoid the threads, and enjoy the forum. At least open your birthday wishes though, and acknowledge your fellow AK'ers for remembering! FWIW.
Regards,
Jim

Wise words indeed, Jim !

Hell, if it was that entertaining for you just go to your profile, change the date every day after midnight, and it can be your birthday every day!:D

I agree, I think it's a wonderful part of the forum.

I think it is a nice bit of camaraderie, a "human touch" that makes the board just that bit more of a group of friends. I try to post wishes for the people I've had more interaction with, or the people I feel contribute a lot here, or at least where I recognize their names!

That said, I know I sometimes miss some Happy Birthday threads where I probably should have/would have/wanted to post a wish, and sometimes I'm in a hurry and think I'll come back and post later, but forget to come back. I just hope anyone I DON'T post a wish for, doesn't feel "neglected" if I don't post. With that in mind, a HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to anyone whose birthday thread I missed!

There eventually will come a point where, with only 365 days in the year and many thousands of members, one will never be able to keep up with them all. But since they aren't automatically generated, but someone has to check birthdates and decide to post the first birthday wish, perhaps it will always be limited to those who have at least one friend here who cares enough to post.

And even though one may wonder if a few people are just PW-ing, it is still touching to read so many wishes from people here, when your own birthday rolls around. You know that at least many/most of them are genuine wishes, because no one makes a person post in such a thread, and when you take time to do so, it is sincerely meant, too.

In every community -- be it online or in the real world -- one makes friends and acquaintances, and forges relationships (for lack of a better word) between those whose opinions "match" your own, and/or you enjoy reading, for whatever reason. Wishing someone you get along with somewhere else on the planet a Happy Birthday is a kind gesture... and it feels great to get wishes, too!
