Are you seeing the nice vintage gear that's starting to hit the streets?

I'm pretty well finished in building my systems, and anything that I might want is not likely going to show up at a thrift store. I've had hundreds of pieces of gear during the hey days of vintage audio. For a while, it was a desert out there! Especially considering the things I have found in thrifts and online for the decade between 2010 and 2020.

Although those days are over, it seems like a good choice of good gear is showing up on FBM and others at very reasonable prices, providing you aren't looking at flipping them and doubling your money. This could be the time for people who want to experiment with different pieces of gear to hear how they sound and the differences in other grear in their experiences. I can tell you, it has been a lot of fun doing that during that decade. I met a lot of great people, a few scumbags, and got to try out so many classic pieces of audio history. It was all timing. Just in speakers, I have had Celestion Ditton 66, 44, 33, 22, 15s, Kef Concerto, 104aB, 104/2, 105, 107, Wharfedale Dovedale IIIs, W70s, Tannoy DC3000s, C10, C8, C6, MX4, Stratfords, T125s, Tangent RS8s, Sansuis, Sonys, Polk Audio, Paradigm, Paisely, Ohm, Mordaunt-Short, Mission, Klipsch, KLH, JBL L100T, L46, L36, L26, L16, Infinity RS7, QA, QB, QE, Genesis, ESS AMT 1s, AMT 1a Monitors, AMT 4, EPI, Energy, Elipson, Cerwin Vega, Camber, Bose, B&W, B&O, AVID, Altec Lansing, Advent. Some of these I've had multiple instances of them. Always nice when you are rotating out amplifiers and receivers regularly.

However, I am noticing good gear showing up at fair prices. Parasound, new high end Yamaha integrated amp, Quad, and JBL! I haven't seen them available online in years! A nice Kenwood KA-6100, and a Sansui AU-11000! I was seeing stuff like this around here until about 2018. Since then, mostly crap. Until now!

Are you guys seeing the same things down south from Ottawa, Canada? Anyone considering playing around with multiple pieces of gear for the first time? Or doing it again?

Yes I've also noticed an increase in some of the better vintage gear being offered. I've also noticed it sits for a while along with the price dropping.
In my case I haven't brought home a new to me piece of vintage gear now in several years. I'm glad I got to own and experience many of the classics and it was a fun time for sure. At this stage though I feel it's time for someone else to have fun collecting those old classics. I've had my turn and have no desire to return to the days of spare gear collected and stashed in every available spot.

There are some that have taken this route to enjoying some fine systems. Seems one can buy, enjoy and resell without losing money. Read about one guy that had a nice spendy separates system and he swapped gear and it didn't cost anything other than initial purchase years earlier.

Here on ak where it seems way too many need this hobby to pay them dividends can't be bothered with buying at a good used price, enjoying the unit and then selling it on for the same price give or take. It might be that someone has bought one for $1 and there is a need to not pay more than that. It is nice to see some folks actually buy near fair used retail prices, enjoy and keep or sell and move on without making money on every transaction being the driving force. An opportunity to see what other gear sounds like.

A rule I made for myself after I maxed out my credit cards trying to find 'the sound', was that I could only buy something if I knew I could make a profit, or at least break even. I needed to get that credit card back down there. That being said, over time, I was able to set up three very nice systems that didn't cost me anything out of pocket. Even my Yamaha GT-2000 was purchased using funds contributed by a very good purchase of a TEAC Z-7000 amongst others. When I sold the TEAC, the Thorens TD-160, and the Kenwood KD-550 all sold for top dollar when I sold them. That was the market at that time. Those all ended up paying for the GT-2000.

But no, I'm not going down that road again. If I buy something, it will be something I really want to try out. There are still a few things on that list, but they are still quite up there in price. I'll keep watching, and pounce if it happens.
