Armchair appraisers needed.

What is a system like this worth in your opinion? :scratch2:

Two (2) very nice Phase Linear 700B power amps. One has had the face plate drilled (perfectly). It was in a rack.

One Phase Linear 4000 Pre amp. Has one slight mod, a shop moved the AUX inputs into the metal case because the board inside is getting weak. Appears to be a good fix.

Everything looks and sounds really good, everything appears to be working and he has the manuals. One owner.

Heres the trick.....
Its an all or none deal.

The 700B had a production run from '74-'77. As such, if they have never been serviced they will be needing a recap. Fully serviced/restored units go for upwards of $800-$1K. That preamp model is likely worth ~$125-$175 in decent condition. Having a "weak board" scares me a little bit. I would be very wary of those amps not knowing their service history IMHO.

Thanks Dave,

I believe he said the board in the pre was "brittle" so they decided to move the inputs to the cover. Wouldnt mind making an offer but I dont want to insult him. He was pretty decent.

I dont really get any more detail than mentioned and thats all he offered. Perhaps thats all the work that has ever been done. Lets assume that because I have no intention of paying top dollar.

I probably will not go back unless I have an offer. Its not really for sale, I purchased an item from him and noticed them (kinda hard to miss two 700B's) he told me he would consider selling and to make him an offer.
He may want something crazy but you never know. :D Cant hurt to try.

Its one owner. Everything works, it looks good and still sounds impressive.
I want to make a reasonable offer and see what happens.
