Art DJ Pre II phono preamp

If you decide on the ART and don't like the "always on feature", a 12V inline power switch was my solution. Mine is sold by Elemental LED and although it's intended for LED lighting, the barrel connectors are the correct size (5.5 mm x 2.1 mm) so it works great.

Although the max current capability of the switch is not specified, I did some poking around on their website and calculated that the switch can be used with LED strips ranging from 1.92A to 3.96A total current draw, based on their suggested use, so the switch should be more than safe for use with the ART as it only draws 150mA.

I deal with the "always on" anti-feature by plugging the wall wart into the switched outlet of my receiver.

For some reason I feel a torrent of "why you shouldn't do that" coming...

Thanks for the tip, ordered one and arrived today, sure does the trick. Just hot glued to side of the Art Pre.
 
I found it. they used cheap electros to keep costs down. This thing is screaming for some Elnas and Nichicons

wow, only 24 caps as I see it? Maybe it's worth it to replace with better goddies. So far I'm happy with how it works, but if someone put out a list I'd probably add it to my next parts order. AND as much as its listener hearing, did the change-out help, or think it helped!

I'm reluctant to open mine because a lot of those "projects" just seem to never get done as soon as I think they will...
 
Just discovered this thread and also just found out about the ART phono pre AMP
This could be the answer to my search - so far I rejected the idea of the Cambridge Azure 651 as it is said to be on the bright side and my 2M blue is on the bright side and my turntable is tight neutral (Gyrodec/Techno arm) my Amplifieers MM stage has a falling bass end as well so hence the idea of trying an external Phono stage.
The other one I have considered is the Pro Ject Phono Box S with the dip switches for fine tuning - but that is about £100= more
It may be worth my while risking the Art at the price...

Edit: I bit the Bullit and ordered the ART - awaiting the arrival now

I have the ART DJ for a year now. Always been happy with it. Today I received a 12 v battery to plug in the AC power input. The sound is less muddy, more boogie, more musical, more expanded. Very nice upgrade and cheap. The rechargeable battery cost 20 bucks.

Have the schiit mani on the way. Curious to see its performance on and off the battery

Very good sound. But prone to interference.once I installed a tv power line.... it was noisy as hell. Had to disconnect the powerline everytime I wanted to listen to music. Sold it. Got a Cambridge audio cp1.

The art DJ is perfectly quiet with the power line on....

Small but solidly built, metal casing and lots of lights. The wall wart P/S looked just a bit bigger than Im used to for items this size and to my surprise its a 1 amp supply. Right off the box the sound is very good, neutral, tight bass and mellow highs, not harsh. No on and off switch and it has a gain control trim pot which I like, gives you the flexibility to give a little extra gain when needed, Im fine at the +2 setting for most albums, raising the gain compresses the sound and I can see some folks liking that, sort of the sound I used to get when playing back a loud tape recording. After a couple of days listening either its opened up just a bit or Im getting used to its sound but I have to say Im very happy with my purchase.
Equipment used its nothing out of this world...sl-1500/Shure M97xe, Nikko NR 1015 and ADS L1290.
Lots of caps inside, HK Jun Fu mostly 220uf 6.3v which Im thinking of replacing with some kind of audio grade type.
Would love to hear other experiences with this gadget and input on recapping or other mods.

Should haved the money and bought a Schitt Audio Mani. For 80 bucks more it completely outclasdes the Art Audio.
