Back in my College days i took some music classes at ASU in Tempe AZ. Jazz and classical appreciation. It introduced me to a whole world of music I never knew existed.

Late 50s: Astrud & Joan Gilberto, Jobim, Stan Getz.

The Beatles - 1964 (Ed Sullivan Show). Loved the Beatles!
1968 - Quit listening to The Beatles.

Then...
Hendrix
Dylan
Jefferson Airplane
Zep
Floyd
James Gang
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Stones
Zappa
** JAZZ (50s-60s) - listened to a lot of Jazz.

Then...
John Lee Hooker (All 'The Delta Blues' artists really, and the blues.)

Then...
Punk
Grunge.
More Blues.

Then...
Even 'a lot more Brazilian' music.
& International Music!! From everywhere. Went 'a bit overboard' on international music.

Even got into 50s-60s country. Which I still like and enjoy, but rarely ever listen to anymore. Got 50 albums.

And then... the 'exact day RAP started', that was the end of ALL new music for me. Just zero interest - No Big Thing.
Hated RAP intensely and didn't like the newer music, which, to me, was just all 'bubble gum'. :dunno:

As a kid, I loved The Beatles, The Kinks, and The Who, and I suppose it was through The Who I got into The Jam, and at that point, Paul Weller became a huge influence. From The Jam to The Style Council and then into his solo career, Weller's work has at various times contained elements of punk, new wave, jazz, soul, funk, folk, electronica, and psychedelia, and as he’s explored different musical styles, I’ve found myself digging into them to see what I might like and have wound up with fairly eclectic tastes as a result.
 
In the 60's I loved The Beatles and most of the British Invasion bands, in late 60's it was British blues all the way...then college and life and disco kept me away from music, punk also...then, didn't see it coming, I started learning "standards" on guitar! My father laughed, "Told ya...!" Well that lasted a while, then got into finger-style and then, after being overcome by the siren-sound that was "rosewood," got into bluegrass and old time (Appalachian and et al) and that's where I am now. Never will be Tony Rice or Peter Rowan and don't wanna be...would be happy just playing rhythm-guitar in a old time or bluegrass string band...but never will, so I collect the music and do guitar-kamp every summer...
