Assistance in selecting the best value turntable

Hello members of audiokarma! A few years ago I received a vinyl from a friend, but at the time I had nothing to play it on. Recently I discovered my grandparents have a huge record collection and a very dusty old turntable. The table sounds great(at least to my ears), but I noticed it wobbles a bit while playing any of their records including the one my friend gave me.

I decided I would like to purchase a TT of my own. I searched at a renowned local record shop which only carried vintage TTs too much for my budget and new TTs which are unable to be upgraded. I also searched numerous Good Wills and found none at all. My budget is pretty low ($125), but I am committed to the world of vinyl.

I've read numerous times that it is a much better experience to purchase locally. I hope to gain some advice in selection of a TT. Here are some local ads for turntables that I've selected based on my $125 budget:

Based on my on feelings, I am more inclined to wait a couple weeks while checking the local good wills every now and then. Another option I have is to ask my grandparents if I can purchase their TT which includes speakers. I would definitely have to clean it up and maybe replace a few parts. I forgot the brand of my grandparents TT. I just remember it was something I haven't heard before, automatically put records on, and was combined with a cassette player.

Glad to hear that you want to start listening to vinyl. I think that waiting is always good. Being hasty has cost me money and I have rarely benefited. Looking at local thrift stores can be frustrating. Be persistent.

Let's get you off to a proper start.

The singular word is "record." (ie: "I found a great record at the Goodwill today!)
The plural words are "records" or "vinyl." (ie: "My dad gave me all of his old records! Where am I gonna put all this vinyl?")

"Vinyl" is not correctly used in the singular form, nor is "vinyls" a correct word for the plural form. :no:

Buy cheap, buy often, and sell the leftovers. Good advice, it's that last one that hangs me up!:D
 
I appreciate all of the help(including grammar)!:D I contacted my grandparents about their turntable. The brand is Soundesign.

I'll keep my eye on that Technics SL 235. I always find myself in a rush to purchase anything. I am so used to having any form of media instantly. Time to practice patience!:yes:

With all respect to your grandparents, please don't procure their Soundesign.

Instead, you should think against waiting, before someone else gets the Technics SL-235. At that price, you are buying the cartridge and getting a table with it.

Sure thing! Just gave the seller a call, no answer so I left a message asking if we could arrange a time for a demonstration.
 
Listen to an LP and make sure all the primary functions are operational!
You can fine tune the rest afterwards.

I could probably help you out at a more reasonable price than any of the KSL or Craigslist sellers. I have a nice Realistic LAB-500 that you could have cheaply... local pick up... just needs a new stylus. PM me if interested.

If I read the ad right they want $125 for the table with the cartridge.
 
$125 for Technics SL-235 with Shure x97e Cartridge. Comes with 10 albums of choice from collection of 100.
