AT LP120 Hinges

I recently picked up a used AT LP120. The previous owner used it without the cover. He had the cover for it, but could not find the hinges when I bought it. I looked around on the internet and found replacement hinges for $18-$20 each. Since I paid $125.00 for the turntable, I really didn't want to stick another $40.00 in it. I happened to see a Stanton SHP0008 replacement hinge on full compass (fullcompass.com) for $4.20 each, and they looked identical to the Audio Technica 701-5500-5405 hinge for the LP120 at $17.49. I decided, for $8.40, I would take a chance. I received the Stanton hinges today and they were an exact fit for my LP120. So just a little PSA. If you need hinges for your LP120, save some money and get the Stanton SHP0008 hinges.

Correct. Audio Technica, Stanton, Reloop, Denon, Pioneer & many other different brands all share the same design for their SL-1200 clones, it is the main thing which keeps the cost down & allows mass-production at lower prices. The actual brand behind these turntables is called Hanpin Electron - they distribute their products to other partners & modify design layout according to their plans & wishes.
 
I got mine cheaper. I got the AT PL120 (not USB) many years ago and after a few years the hinges broke. I noticed they were really very poor quality. So I decide to call Audio Technica for a pair of replacements. The gentleman who attended me was very courteous. I asked if I could get a new pair of hinges from them and he said yes. Then he asked me for name and shipping address and said they would ship them. I said, wait, don't you need a credit card so you can get paid, and he told me they were free of charge. I thought, yeah right, I'll get nothing in the mail, but to my surprise, 4 days later I received them, installed them and they are still working OK. Talk about great customer service. I believe they knew the poor quality of the original hinges and decided to replace them for their customers who called instead of having angry customers, and it really worked for me. Next time I buy a turntable I'll give serious thought about Audio Technica since customer service is almost as important as the quality of the product.
