AT question

One of my carts in rotation is an AT 2214Sh that needed a new stylus. The original calls for an ATN-14. I ordered an ATS-14 from needeldaddy (on sale), and while it is a snug fit, it does fit. And best of all- it makes the cartridge sound most excellent. So much so, that I am in no hurry to put the DL-160 back on.
So- what is the difference between the ATN-14 and the ATS-14?

The ATS14 should have a Shibata on a tapered alu cantilever as well - but afaik only the ATN14 has a nude diamond with square shank, while it should be a bonded one with round shank on the ATS14...

P.S.: I'm surprised that it fits/holds on the body, though - I would have assumed the higher sidewalls of the ATS14 to be in the way...

I've noticed you are very knowldeged regarding the AT products.
I still don't know why the wrong stylus sounds so good- maybe the old ATN was worn (I don't have a way to check).

I think it´s the right stylus for AT2214Sh. If You look at lpgear it´s the same as AT14S(ATS14S stylus). An ATN14 stylus would not fit without much work.
I asked turntableneedles and they confirmed that the ATS14S also uses a square shank nude Shibata. So I understand why is sounds good, not easy to better this one.

gusten: *lol* You're right, man. FW seemed so convinced he'd have the wrong type, that I didn't even check - but he's actually got the right type anyway.

Interesting info about the diamond type, though - 'cause I've already seen a bonded ATS14 version. So it seems like the ATS14 can come either bonded or nude - just like the ATS12.
