Atlantic Technology? Never heard of them.

My local thrift shop has been getting some good stuff in lately. I ran across these little Atlantic Technology Model 4.5LR speakers. I think they might be the satellite speakers form another set because I could not find anything on them. I never heard of Atlantic Technology. $4.99/ea and again I let them sit not knowing what they where. Should I go back and get them? I wounder if they would be any good as little bookshelf's?

The back looks nice (no front pic). I'd have grabbed them for $10 a pair. If I didn't like them, it only stings $10 worth.
 
They only play down to 125hz, so only good for rear surrounds. The manual is online with a Google search.

Thanks, I looked high and low with every combination of the name/model and could find zilch. Glad I didnt wast my money. I don't need any surrounds.
 
Nothing wrong with any Atlantic Technology speakers. Very good products. Some of the first speaker designs specifically for HT. The 4.5 Series were just a compact set up, intended for use with a sub.

Years and years ago, Parts Express sold some closeout stuff with that brand name on it, including a powered subwoofer.
I used one of these, off and on, for quite a few years. Not bad (and the price, at the time, was very right).

Continuously variable level, XO frequency, and phase -- which is nice.

More of an HT subwoofer than a hifi subwoofer, methinks, but better than nothing when some LF augmentation was desired.
 
I recall that many years ago the company made inexpensive but well regarded surround sound gear. That was back during laser disc and Dolby Surround and Shure surround days. Maybe Dolby Digital. Anyway, it generally considered good gear.
 
Yea, Atlantic produced some high end HT speakers. Even top of the line THX speakers. They always received good published reviews too.

Oh yea, Atlantic Technology founder Peter Tribeman started at NAD. After 28 years at AT, he's moved on to Outlaw Audio. Not too shabby.

Thanks, Stimpy. Somewhere buried deep in my fading neurons I knew there was a connection; good to know I'm not totally nuts...yet.

I'm not sure? But, Phase Tech has been around since the mid '50's. They've kind'a done their own thing. Bill Hecht was the main engineer pretty much the whole time, with his son Ken now running the business.
 
They where well built for sure. Very solid thick brushed aluminum front. Everything about them screamed quality but I figured they were part of an home theater setup. If anything they were cool to look at and I learned something to. Thanks for the schooling. Some of you guys know a lot about this stuff.
