Atlas DCA55 Self Test Failed Error

Good morning community,

I recently used my Peak DCA55 tester to test an output transistor and after that the tester started showing an error saying that it failed the self test code 5 .

I replaced the battery and inspected the unit inside to see if anything looked out of place or leading or burned to not avail.

I have checked online also trying to find a solution and nothing. I was hoping to find anyone here who has seen the same problem and has found a solution....Anyone please?

Did you test the transistor while it was installed in something? If so, there may have been some residual charge in the power supply that damaged it. The manual says:

Yes, I think that is what happened... I replaced the battery and the problem still persists. I could not find any other thread...

That`s my thought as well, Ray. :beerchug:
Looks like the Peak was spiked by the circuit`s residual PS capacitors voltage (not completely discharged) in the equipment when the OP tried to test a transistor still fully connected in circuit., o_O

For the close to a decade of owning and using my Peak DCA55, I`ve never tried to test a transistor in circuit, as I didn`t think to trust it`s test results, especially in common across my bench direct coupled audio amplifiers.

Oh well, looks like the OP needs to send it back to the factory, or toss, and replace. :(
Live and learn.

Update: I contacted the factory and they were actually very reasonable. The unit is obviously out of warranty, but they offered to restore/reprogram with the latest firmware for $36 including return shipping (That also includes a new battery)...The cost to ship the unit to the UK is about another $17 + travel time...the cost of a new unit on eBay is about $99 and $103+tax on Amazon...so take your pick...lol - $53 plus some waiting time or $103+tax within a couple of days... I decided to order a new one from Amazon and I also sent the damaged one for repair for $53 and will keep it as a spare...I think the cost to repair is not that bad if you are willing to wait! I hope this helps!

Very good then, fdeelros. :beerchug:
I suspect you`ll be a bit more careful in the future when testing transistors with the Peak DCA 55. :)
Best to check them out of the circuit, and less risky, as well.

I purchased a new one from Newark about a month ago for less than $55.00 Shipping was included because I purchased some other items too.

Now $59.02 now with inflation, but way better than Prime @ $103
Those must be nice . . . I've only had a cheap m328 which has helped me for sure but some day I'd like to have a DCA.
cool that they'd even offer to fix it actually. I think that says a lot.

@Young46 - Thank you! :-) I found the web and ordered it from Newark. $73.84 in your doorstep. Not bad at all! It will arrive tomorrow. I am still working on that Pioneer SA-9800 that you commented on- charred power supply! lol

I just purchased a Peak think its the 70 from Newark and it was considerably -- lots less than anyplace else -- sorry to hear of your mishap OP :(
