atp-12t, at-1503mkiii tonearm interchangeability

illini

The Past is Alive
I have been reviewing the specifications for the Audio Technica atp-12t and the at-1503mkiii tonearms and the biggest difference I see, besides the improvements implemented in the latter's design, is the overall length; the atp-12t is 357mm while the 1503mkiii is 330mm.

I have a plinth designated for an atp-12t and I would like to know if the at-1503mkiii is truely interchangeable with the atp-12t.

Anyone?

The ATP 12-T is a 10" tonearm. The AT 1503 Mk III is a 9" tonearm. Some alterations in your plinth will be needed to align correctly. And you may need wood filler to cover up the old hole. And a little bit of paint work. But doable.

The ATP-12T is a nice arm anyway. If I were headed to a 9" AT arm it would be the 1009. I liked that one a whole lot.

Well, the effective length for both is 257mm and I'm assuming that's more important than the overall length. The overall length of the tonearms is different, though.
