Hi guys, own a AU and TU 666
Doing a upgrade to the au as in this link I found

Was wondering if someone can recommend an upgrade to the tu, I know some are going to say leave it original but really want to upgrade it as the tuner part is very poor and only get 3 channels on am and 2 on fm, must be a way to boost without buying expensive antennas, climbing through my attic or on the roof, my 9090db has no prob picking up reception with an indoor areial I made

A full alignment is complicated and requires special test equipment.

That said, a lot of times adjusting the front end, improves reception quite a bit. I have a Sansui G-9000 here that would barely tune and not in stereo. A quick adjustment of the head end and it pulls in stations great in stereo. If you search, there is a thread explaining how to do this.

I have done it, per the instructions in the thread, many times with great success.

Be prepared for others to chime in saying you will screw it up.

It was many years ago that I saw the post. Could have been by Merrylander. Search tuning cap adjustment. Go to page 8.

If you are careful and turn the screws just a little bit and mark where they were so you can pit them back where they were, you should be fine.

The FM fins are the smaller ones, and the screws are just above them.

Worst case is it wasn't working well and needed an alignment any way.

This is not a substitute for a full alignment, but can make improvements.

I only adjusted one tuning cap screw on this G-9000 and the station went from a signal strength of less than 1 to 4.

Mine is not that good either. Also mine only a few stations without noise AND stereo at the same time. Nevertheless do not expect too much from a simple tuner. The more complicated tuner in my Seven pulls stations in much easier.

Also, be prepared to screw it up if the sensitivity is actually normal or degraded by another reason than alignment. Expectation bias...
BTW WHEN the tuner receives a signal apparently the 12 volts supply changes a bit, so I tried putting in a voltage regulator instead of the resistor when recapping the tuner anyway. I did not have the impression it made any obvious difference. Note I do not have sufficient alignment knowledge/no tuner experience
