AU-X1 impressions.

Hello fine people. Well, I just want to share with you my first impressions on my newly (but used) adquired AU-X1. I have been listening for a while an AU-919 that I have along with an 719. I have forgotten how this machine sounds (last time I listened to this monster I was 20 years old in a friend's house who had the money to get one of these, I'm twice older now and at that time I could only dream on having one X1; we had an 517 which gave us many years of excellent service along with magnificent sound).

The sound is so good that is almost incredible to believe that such an old machine delivers that wonderful power and music, but I'm hearing it, so it's true! I bought it from a guy in Germany. Has a few dents but nothing serious. When I opened it dust and dirt was covering everything so it took me a good couple of hours to clean it. Also 2 light bulbs are out; I'll take it to the shop in the future to fix this. The good thing is that has never been repaired, it was stored and that was it. What a monster machine! 30 kg of power and japanese engineering that wonder my ears and almost produces me an hernia in both arms, but I'm so happy that my arms pain went away.

Let me tell you something. I've reached to a conclusion comparing these 3 machines. Obviously the X1 is the king, but the 919 is very far from it. I mean, the difference is between heaven and earth, and been one step down from the X1 the gap is enormous (musically speaking, and of course, on power handling too). In fact, the 719 performs better than the 919 IMHO, and I got them in front of me! Probably the parts from the 719 are better than the 919 since is was made after it, but the three have the DD/DC circuitry so I don't know (???). All I can say is that NOW my Mourdaunt Short are dancing!

Just wanted to share this with you Sansui's lovers. BTW, if any of you know somebody who may have an original or copy of the owner's manual, I'll be more than happy to pay for a copy for myself. Regards to all of you.

Thanks for the comparison. That is an amp that I will probably never get to own. Glad you like it.

As far as the 919 and 719 go, I had both. I still have the 719, but only because the 919 did not have a loudness button, which I use for low level listening.

I felt that the 919 sounded as good as the 719.

I have a feeling others will chime in about your 919.

I am suprised you see so much difference between the 919 and X1, they are quite similar internally. Great report on the X1 though.

Yes, I agree.
There is a big difference between the X1 and 919. I could hardly believe it but is quite true when you do a side by side live comparison. I think that all of the DD/DC series has a lot to offer over most other amplifiers, regardless of brand. I feel very lucky for the recent acquisition of my AU-X1. And thanks for your enthusiasm. :thmbsp:

If the X1 or 919 have not been recapped then they need to be done. I did mine myself. Be sure to get rid of those black flags! Don't put this off. :nono:If you can't do this, echowars is the man.:yes:
The X1 is simply a more powerful version of the 919. Your 919 may not be up to the mark.:nono:
I agree that the X1 is tops when working to spec.:thmbsp:
