Audigy 2 ZS problem

Hello! I'm new to the forum. I have a question about my audigy 2 zs. I'm having a little problem that i've just noticed. There seems to be a bit of channel leakage on the line out 1 jack (if either the left or right speaker is muted there is still a bit of sound coming from it - i'm guessing from the other channel). Does anybody know if this is a software issue or a hardware one. Also if this is a hardware issue, does anybody know what it could be and if it's fixable. Thank you!

Need some more info -- what is the signal going into, a stereo, or just powered computer speakers. If hooked to a stereo, how high do you have the volume set on the amp/receiver, ie; do you crank up the volume on the stereo, and control it from the computer?
 
It goes into a set of 5.1 speakers. Let me detail a bit more. If i put headphones it, they sound just awful, distorted and the channels combined so that if you mute one of them you still get sound from both speakers. A strange thing is that if you remove the jack halfway it sounds better and you get sound from both sides (which i find really odd), but there is still some leakage. The lineout 2 jack works perfectly, if i set the configuration to 4.0 speakers, i can put headphones in and there are no problems (in the line out 2). I'm guessing that this is a hardware issue though, but i'm trying to find out what it is exactly and if it's easily fixable or not.
 
It sounds like the jack on line 1 might be broken or shorted somewhere, and pulling the plug out a little is correcting the short. I attached a pic of the internals of the TRS jack. S is your common ground and T & R is the stereo signal. To test if this is the case you could try soldering 3 wires to the back of the card where the jack is and running it out of the PC to a new jack. In any case, this doesn't sound like a software issue to me, but hardware one.

Hi! I did a few measurements on the card. With the power off i get about 60 ohms between the left and right channel on the line out1 jack; pretty strange since on the other 2 line outs i get about 10 megs. While it was on and playing i got about 1 meg on the line 1 out between the left and right (forgot to check the other two) so it doesn't seem to be the audio jack. I also tried to measure the resistance between the outputs of the opamp (i hope i got it right) and it came out pretty high (in the megaohm range). I measured the coresponding capacitors, found them to be about 19 uF (they have a nominal capacitance of 22 as i recall) and also found one of 16 or so uF, but i also found one that was 15 uF on one of the lineouts that works properly. I don't really know the layout of the board so i don't know where else the two signals could get mixed. BTW, thanks for answering :D
 
Ok.

1) Was this soundcard ever working correctly, or did you just buy a used/new one somewhere and install it?

2) Have you physically inspected the Line 1 jack by looking inside the computer while inserting a mini TRS connector??

3) Have you inspected the TRS audio cable you're using for Line 1 out, and used an ohmeter to make sure left/right/ground connections are not shorted???

Provided you've properly setup the THX Console, this issue sounds like it's hardware related. Based on your description, it sounds as though some of the audio is getting 'stacked' into the Line 1 output for some reason. This would explain why you're still getting some audio leaking through when muting left or right channels for Line 1 out.
