Audio Control C-101 mic

Recently acquired a Audio Control C-101 equaliser/spectrum analyser - no mic/no instructions. For what i want my friend Jim to use it for - probably don't need instructions - but the microphone is a issue. Assume original mics are probably unobtanium at this late date,
Does anyone know of a reasonably cheap substitute ? Mechanically the back panel input is some sort of 1/4' plug - won't be able to take the covers off for a day or two -so no idea if this is balanced or not ?

I bought one of those new back in the 80's I believe .

Still have the complete setup. Used it to setup sound at our church.

The mic kinda looks like a pellet gun co2 cartridge.

I can take some pics later after if you would like.

It is a standard 1/4" T-S plug on the mic cable. Simple coax for the cable, in other words, not a balanced mic. It is an electret condenser mic, with no local power. Therefore, phantom power must be supplied by the EQ. This implies the power and signal are the same conductor in the cable. Inside the mic housing, is a single simple condenser element. I've repaired both ends of this cable numerous times (EQ end, mic end).

I think Parts Express used to carry an electret condernser mic element. In my two minutes of searching, I could not find it today. It would be relatively easy to build up a simple mic for this EQ by putting the mic element in the end of a plastic tube, like a pen or straw.

you know

I couldnt get squat for my setup including the Mic, owners manual and a setup 45 with tones on it. Wasnt going to let the whole thing go for a hundred. Kept the EQ and sold all the rest including rack mount ears for a hundred. Still enjoying it daily Jim:music:

does Audio Control still exist? Is the Mic still available?

Yes, they do, and they still sell the mic. I have 2 of the original ones, the one that came with the C101 I bought back in around 1980 and one I bought in Ebay to have as a spare. I also bought a C22, C50A, instruction manual and mic combo from a guy in Ebay, and the mic is the new one they sell now as a substitute. It is smaller in size and it doesn't register the lower frequencies as well as the older ones.

Audio Control still has them for about $35, bought one today. There is one selling on ebay for $99.

On Sunday I placed a maximum bid on Ebay of $65 for a C101 and mic. combo but did not get it. It went for something like $93. They come out in there quite often.
