Audio Conundrum! New TV to Sansui G5000 receiver

Hi everyone.
I recently invested in a Sansui G5000 mated to some Boston A150's. It sounds wonderful. Unfortunately my Samsung tv only has optical audio out. Do I buy the cheapo $20 optical to RCA adapter or go for something like an Emotiva xda-2 (big bonus here is the remote control to adjust volume)? I stream audio in 320kbp/s or lossless formats to an Apple TV connected to tv via hdmi. Any suggestions out there? Do the cheap adapters degrade audio? Are there other DACs that I should be considering?
Help!

I use a $10 optical to RCA. Garage only, so I can't say if it's good or not. Works though.:D

You should be able to come off your Cable/Verizon/Directv box not your TV. They have many RCA outputs for audio.
