audio magazine curiosity

Electrostatics (exhale)... one day, one day I'll get those martin logans.... Thank bigphil- I'll go and check it out (and drool).

I think that the brits have (or had) some better magazines than we do in the US. My favorite of old was hi-Fi news and Record Review. But I haven't seen on of thier issues in over 15 years, and I have no idea if they are even around anymore.

I have subscribed to Stereo Review, Audio, High-Fidelity, Stereophile, and the Absolute Sound. I rarely read any of these publications anymore, unless they have reviewed something that is exceptionally interesting to me. My subscitions to SF and TAS just expried again. I haven't decided if I wish to renew them yet or not.

I was a very dissoipointed when Audio went under, because I believe that they combined the best combination of subjective amd objective reviews of anyone (with the possible excption of HFNRR).

The sad fact of the matter is that the state of the art in Audio really has not advanced all that much over the last 20+ years. Some might even argue 40 years since there were some awsome units from the 60 as well (Old Mac and Marantz gear, and thorens turntables come to mind).

Unlike many here, I do firmly beleive that not all electronics sounds the same, and so I do find subjective reviews to be a helpfull starting point when looking at a piece of equipment to purchase. But that is all that they are, a helpfull starting point. My own ears always make the final descision, as should yours. Frankly I find that my ears do not always agree with those of the reviewer.

I miss Audio Magazine--and once video took over Stereo Review, I dropped that one too...that actually might be when my audio collecting stopped years back.

Then I found AK.

I would, however, like to find another nice and informative audio related mag. I did get Stereophile for a while and then let it expire.

Guess I need to get myself to a newsstand and see what's out there...
