Redundant Discombobulator
Hello everyone on AudioKarma.
I'm Ian, living in Mexico (Guadalajara city), 40 years ancient, and yet another member of the "Lacking in Funds Audiophile" club.
Over 15 years ago I made my first tentative incursion from common consumer stuff (I had one of those Sony minicomponents, and I was sure it sounded incredible) into the field of more civilized equipment.
At the time, I managed to put together a few pesos, and ran (almost literally) to downtown Mexico City, where all the audio shops are located. I ended up getting a Technics SA-EX310 Dolby Prologic stereo amp, a Technics SL-PD887 5-CD carrousel player, a load of 16 cal. Oxygen free cabling, and a pair of SB-LX50 speakers.
I was blown away (here's where I brace for the first onslaught of "ignorant noob" comments) by the sound my incredible system put out.
Soon after that I put together another couple of pesos and got the SB-CSS50 surround speaker set from Technics. These had rather crummy sound and I never (until last week) got more than an annoying high-pitched mumble out of the center speaker.
Then, over the years, I didn't upgrade, sell, or anything... I just kept it, and used it. I put away the surround speakers, disappointed by the way I felt Prologic handled surround, and used the floorstanding LX50s only.
Eventually the receiver, CD-player, and speakers were all put away and I got sadly accustomed to using a simple Logitech Z-5500 system to hear my DTS-CDs.
Recently I decided to upgrade some stuff, within my very limited means of course. I found a Technics SA-DX1050 receiver, used and in very bad cosmetic shape, and bought it. I dug out the surround set, busted the center speaker open, fixed a loose connector, and hooked the whole thing up.
Now I'm a happy, penniless, noob, audiophile.
I just don't understand why so many posters hate my LX50s!
