Audio Research Or Peachtree Integrated??

Hi All,

I am the restless type and am always wondering if there is something 'more' to be had at a reasonable[cheap] price.

I currently have an Audio Research 150.2 amp paired with an ARC SP16 preamp. My speakers are Magnepan MG12s. I am always intrigued by going to an integrated amp. The Peachtree Grand X-1 has lots of great features and has lots of power which the Magnepans love. It also has a tube buffer stage so I would retain some of the 'tubey goodness'. I could probably sell the Audio Research equipment and have more than enough to get a used Peachtree.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Peachtree integrated? I know ARC is very highly regarded but I was wondering if the Peachtree's more modern design might yield some sonic bliss.

I have a Nova 65SE. I debated this vs. the 125 and 225. It is an honest 65watts and more than enough for my collection of B&Ws and TF1000s. Its very solidly built and has been bullet proof. Mine only has two analog inputs and lot less rms. SQ is not overly warm with the tube stage - hard to hear the difference w/ that feature turned off. I use this in my 2nd/3rd system. I was not aware of the Grand. Good luck!
 
Honestly I would upgrade your speakers before ditching the ARC gear. There's nothing wrong with the MG12s but they are not IMHO capable of revealing all that either the ARC or X1 can offer.
 
Peachtree is fine but I would keep the ARC gear and spend the money elsewhere....
 
Thanks for the responses. I am also kicking around the idea of going rogue. Maybe a Cronus Magnum or a Pharaoh. Any thoughts on either of those??
