Audio Research SP10 mkII vs MkI Sound Signature question

SP-10 out 1100 ohms, amp in 47K
Good, that ratio is easily above the 10:1 rule, and should be fine, but 1100-ohm output impedance is moderately high, compared to when using a solid state preamps into the solid state amp. Maybe try a short interconnect with a low-capacitance cable, and see if that effects the sound at all. Just suggesting these random things to scratch off the list and easy to check and eliminate; and help narrow down what you could be hearing; before feeling like you have to go back inside the chassis's.

Frequency response is in hold, it has developed a peculiar problem in the right phono channel, so have to deal with that first. Occasionally it put pits out s noise similar to a bad noisy tube, but I changed tubes a few times and it’s not a tube. Either a resistor or capacitor or bad solder joint, not sure. Sound doesn’t disappear, this “hr-hr-hr-hr” goes together with music signal. It could be anything and will be a b…. to trace.

Turns out this noise is RFI. ARC has s bulletin. Hand-written, with somewhat not very clear drawings. Their solution is to solder a bunch of small disc capacitors mostly where umbilical cord enters the main chassis. I moved the preamp to scooter room and it stopped. Mystery deepens )))))

I would think the better fix is a higher quality shield cable for the umbilical, shielding it rather than filtering it.

that would only work if the problem is being picked up in the cable. If its coming out of the power supply it will still be at the other end.
