Audio Technica AT7V Cartridge

Hi all,

I am thinking about trying an Audio Technica AT7V on my Thorens TD-145 turntable w/TP 16 Mk I tonearm. Has anyone here heard this particular cartridge? If so, can you comment on its sound? Do you think it would be a good match with my tonearm?

The 7V is a nice cart that seems to work better in med mass arms, than some of the others. If you do a search I think you'll find much love for the 7V.

For those still interested, my 7V is sounding phenomenal on a metal pulleyed TD160S/ Linn Akito. Not as detailed as my cirkused Sondek/Ittok/OC9iii combo but every bit as musical and exciting. Great PRAT and presence yet can be listened to for hours w/o fatigue. Slightly bright OOTB but settles nicely to a neutral tone once broken in; very sensitive to arm height adjustment (that tells you its got a great tip). IMO the Best Buy in the AT line- not as impressive on paper as AT150 and 440 but much better real world performance not to mention ridiculous low price. Best MM I've owned since Grace F9E.

I have an AT7V to go on my Jelco 750D when my TD 124 is restored. I bought it based on recommendations as an inexpensive choice that is a good match for the arm. Glad to hear that you like it , Rasputin.

Performance is very much subjective of course. But personally I really like a nude 0,2x0,7 mil needle, and this has one.

I believe that the AT150MLX measures 530 ohms and 350mH. The AT7V measures 650 ohms and 500mH. The closest of the old bodies, electrically, I could find which would accept an ATN7V physically are the Signet TK1Ea and 3Ea which measure 780 ohms and 490mH.

For those Technics SL-1200 MkII owners, the AT-7V sounds quite nice on my 1210M3D. I've been going back and forth between it and an Ortofon OM-30 this morning. The OM retrieves more detail but I think with most recordings I actually prefer the AT, as it has a richer midrange. (Both through a Lehmann Black Cube). YMMV.
