Audio Technica ATP-12T tonearm and SPU??

Good afternoon.

Has anyone on the forum ever tried an Ortofon SPU (integrated cartridge and headshell-@36 grams) on an Audio Technica ATP-12T tonearm?

Is it possible with the stock counterweight or would I need to get a heavier auxillary weight for the arm so the SPU would track at 4 grams??

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Kent...

Would I need a second counterweight or will the large one that comes standard on the tonearm be able to balance that heavy cartridge/headshell combo all by itself?

A clip-on weight?

Very interesting.....did you make it or have it manufactured? What is the weight of that auxillary unit?

Thanks for your advice on this matter.

Very good idea!

Did you really need the auxillary weight with the integral SPU cartridge/shell or was it just for safety's sake?

I do have a "nuded" SPU....the Classic N E.....I'm thinking of mounting it on either a Sumiko HS-12 shell(11.4 grams) or on a Jelco shell (14 grams). Do you see any problems with wither of those combos with just the counterweight that comes with the AT arm?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info...

If I were to buy an integral SPU it would be a newer model.

I am very encouraged to hear of your success with the Royal N on the AT with the Sumiko headshell. I think I'll save some $$ and go in that direction with the N E on a Sumiko.

Thanks again!
