Audiofile speakers @ the GW

Saw a pair of Audiofile HT speakers at the GW today. First time I've actually seen any White Van speakers up close. Hard to imagine anyone would be fooled into believing these things are worth the MSRP, or anything more than the $25/pr. GW was asking. The veneer is the cheapest-looking crap I've ever seen, and the particle board or whatever they are constructed with is thinner than most all-in-one BPC '90's "rack" system speakers.

Needless to say, I left them where they were.

I'm amazed at how many I see at pawn shops. Do they really give people $$ for that crap?

There's a Dynaudio ripoff out there, looks close but you can tell by the workmanship. There was a pair in a local pawn for $399 - I almost laughed out loud.
 
funny, what happened was they bought them and then realized they were of the kmart variety so now they are hoping another fool will come along. I do this occasionally with speakers that I thought were quality but of course I just toss them into the trash pile.

Saw my first pair of Davinci speakers at the Goodwill a month or so ago. I debated on whether to pick them up, but decided that I was still satisfied with my Panasonic Thrusters.
 
I have always been curious about these types of speakers. Picked up a pair from the goodwill for $25 each. They aren't absolutely awful. They are decent enough for the garage. Titanium tweets are too bright tho. Going to change them out. Crossover was better than expected. I've seen speakers with only a single cap to each driver. Laugh all you want, but for me it's a fun project. :D cabinets will get some better polyfill. Picked up some nice chunks of foam from work. I'll seal the corners of the cabinet and see what I end up with. Probably put a cheaper ribbon tweeter in them. They are crossed at 1.2 and 5k, so should work.
 
These supposedly put up some unsafely low amp loads sometimes, so be careful you don't toast your amplifier.
 
We should all answer his ad asking for more info regarding the listening pleasures enjoyed in his tenure.
