• The move to the new server is done. There are some software and database maintenance updates in process. This has us passing the hat around to help out. We appreciate any donations. Seriously, even a dollar helps. The payment page may be found here - https://www.audiokarma.org/support.html

AudioKarma server upgrade tomorrow

Kamakiri

The New Dynamic
I just wanted to announce that we'll be upgrading to a dedicated AudioKarma server tomorrow at some point :)

This is what we'll get (expensive  , but worth it):

50 GB bandwidth
256KB cache
29 GB storage (we've got 500 MB now)
100 MBps Ethernet card

Signed us up for a 12 month commitment, we'll have more space than we'll need for a while. The transfer will take place within the next 24 hours.

OK everyone.....cross your fingers. :)

Good work Kam! Gonna have to sell some ad space on AK or something to pay for it I guess.

Just wanted to say, thanks again Kam for your dedication & devotion to this site. You have deffinately given all of us Audio-holics the best meeting place we could ever ask for... Hands Down.

Thanks Tim...But, I have a question for both you and all the members.

What should we do about money?

You have already had out of the pocket expenses to get the site gowing...and to maintain the site...but the server upgrade is a substantial upgrade, not only in service...but in cost too. I don't know how much you come up with out of pocket...but that amount seems to be increasing. Do ANY of the AK members have any suggestions?

again...thanks!

Good point GF. I've thought of offering to help many times, but after getting laid off in May, I just haven't had the funds to do much of anything.

I did just start back to work full time though a few weeks ago & although I sure ain't rich... I'd be more than happy to kick in what I can to help the Kam-ster out. ;)

Kama- If the members here wish to contribute some $$ to further benefit the Site, please let Us know to whom and where to send the funds to. (Paypal ok?)

What do you think a fair estimate would be as to the cost that it would come out to for each member?

Sincerely, B/F.

Kam

Although now is not a great time for me financially and I wouldn't be able to contribute as much as I would like, I will certainly send you what I can right now.
:bigok:

Guys

Kam footed some Serious Cash for this transfer. Being the kinda person he is he wont even think of asking the members for dime....Well Screw that I will ! The AK Treasury is about as broke as can be so its All come from Kam. We were trying to save up some cash for a new Chatroom but this Transfer takes priority. For those who still have probs with the old chatroom we apologize but until 500.00 + 40.00 a month to support it falls in our laps the old one will have to do. If anyone wishes to help feel free to click on the Paypal Button at the bottom of the page. Thanks.

Grumpy

Not afraid to admit that I am too stupid to use Paypal.

Kamakiri,

I've made a few bucks here, and don't want to be in bad form. Kindly e-mail me with an address where I can put some of the money back in.

Grumpy- Check the Paypal account.

Hope my contribution will be of some benefit. This Site is definitely worth it. I always feel like its my Online home away from home when I'm here:)

Sincerely, B/F.

Possible equipment auctions

as other sites have done?

Although cash may be tight, I'm sure most on this board may have a spare component laying around that could be donated, sold, and proceeds back to the pockets getting emptied.

I am willing to donate cash or equipment. I would do an auction myself, but my lack of feedback would tend to lower prices bid.

Thanks guys for all of your support :)

Just so all of you know what today's costs were (since you're all an integral part of this site I should share this with you), the upgrade will end up costing $60 a month for server fees, and a cost of $150-$200 for site and domain transfer, which were all paid for today....including the overage cost for AK for being over bandwidth on the current server. I may have to pay $600 in an up front contract to get this deal....but it's the best deal I've seen, and will give us absolutely unlimited space. A small price to pay for hanging with your good friends IMO :beerchug:

The chat software is going to come soon I hope.....I recently listed some eBay auctions which closed....that in addition to (hopefully) rolling some gear from my local paper ad will help offset a lot of the costs. Our one paid banner ad netted the site $50 during January.

I've never had my hand out, and I don't want to start now....but any donations are always appreciated.

BTW, our chat software fund is at about $150 saved up....so we're getting there too.

Hey guys, I don't have a freaking job! I just sent in my donation and have marked my calendar to do so every month. It's meager, but it's what I can afford. Let's help AK grow:)

Being a carpenter, during winter I am usually broker than a 2 dollar hooker with the clap. But once spring comes I'm in for as much as I can. I really dig this place and want to see it grow.

Thanks to everyone for your donations.....they will help us to make AK better and stronger! :)

The bad part about it is that in many cases, I don't know who to thank individually because I don't know your real names!

The contracts get faxed in today for the new server.....

Kam,

I am pretty new here but have been lurking and learing for a long time. I just wanted to personally thank you for everything that you do to make AK possible. I know that most think that the internet should be free but I know that bandwidth and server space costs $$$. I am happy to be hitting that Paypay button and donating a few $ to be a part of this site and to help keep it alive. Probably most members here do feel the same way.

Keep up the good work. And don't be shy to ask for help anytime you need it. We all need this place to share our obsessions. You know that we don't get many grins when we try to talk to our wives out it!
