I recently picked up an old copy of the Flanders and Swan show "At the Drop of a Hat" on vinyl from the discount record bin. To my amusement the second song on the first side is a parody of the 1950's era obsession with high fidelity stereo called, 'A Song of Reproduction.' It started me wondering how many other songs deal directly (or tangentially) with audiophile obsessions or audio gear.

Any suggestions?

Here is the first part of the the F&S song:

Both: I had a little gramophone,
I'd wind it round and round.
And with a sharpish needle,
It made a cheerful sound.

And then they amplified it,
It was much louder then.
And used sharpened fibre needles,
To make it soft again.

Today for reproduction,

High fidelity, Hi-Fi's the thing for me.
With an LP disk and an FM set,
And a corner reflex cabinet.
High frequency range,
Complete with auto-change.

Flanders: All the highest notes neither sharp nor flat,
Swann: The ear can't hear as high as that.
Flanders: Still, I ought to please any passing bat,
Swann: With my high fidelity.

Rock Around the Clock....Bill Hayley and the Comets, is about Bobby Sockers dancing round the clock in front of their favorite Juke Box and to their most favorite 45's. Back then groups of people would get together as couples, have a few cocktails and dance to their favorite records on the back patio of the house until we hours of the morning. Music was an important part of community and home life. Music has returned to becoming just as important today, LP sales for 2015 has seen an increase of 30%. I just saw an advertisement for a new Marantz receiver....and entry level turntable sales are off the charts.

"Turntable" - Grace Potter & The Nocturnals (A superb example that basically describes sex with turntable terminology)
"MP3" - Tesla (Mimics many audiophile feelings about MP3s and new technology)
"Digital World" - Amaranthe (refers to how pervasive digital is now, particularly "I am the voice of the next generation, Completely digital")
"Tapedeck" - Silversun Pickups
"Big Ten Inch Record" - Aerosmith (she loves it)
"Wall Of Sound" - Firewind (they refer to themselves as a "wall of sound" and many of our systems provide a wall of sound for them)
"Turn It Up" - Robert Plant (refers to how one can get lost inside the radio, the radio can change lives and things of that nature)
"Put That Record On" - Hinder
"In Stereo" - Fort Minor
"Act A Fool" - Ludacris (really the opposite of audiophile with the lyric "More speakers in the trunk than my ride can handle")
"Turn Down For What" - DJ Snake & Lil Jon (for those of us that listen at loud volumes)
"Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown" - Rob Zombie (particularly "listen to the radio")
"Strobe Light" - The B-52's (a real stretch, but if you play the record on a turntable with a strobe light like mine, then technically they could be singing about that strobe light...)

A few of those are a bit of a stretch, but kind of related.
