Audioquest FLX/Slip 14/4 - a scam?

I recently purchased a pair of FLX/SLIP 14/4 from Future shop and have run them in for over 50 hours.

Before that, I used to use a pair of Audio-Technica OFC speaker cables purchased from a chain electronic shop's hifi department, which cost me about 10USD (one pair of 2 meters). I used them as a temporary while watching out for good deals out there.

Obviously, the Audioquest cables are a few times more expensive than my previous ones. Based on price difference and the raving reviews from people on various forums , esp the recommendations from WHAT HIFI, I had a great hope that they would bring significant improvement to my system.

Arriving in my place directly from The FutureShop, at first use, I noticed immediate improvement in detail, imaging and stage. Yet, the sound was dull, lifeless, the dynamic is gone! So I thought maybe they just need some time to run in. After 50 hours + of running in, they sound pretty much the same- dull, veiled, lifeless, lack of dynamic!

I feel being cheated. Anyone has an experience with Flx Slip please give me advice. Should I go back to my previous cables, though very cheap, sound much more lively and dynamic?

Those cables can be used in a bi-wire configuration, so i checked your speakers, it looks like they have just 2 binding posts? Other than that, maybe switch back and forth between the two cables using the same music to get a better idea on what may be missing.

For me, the big jump I experienced in speaker cables was when I switched to solid core cables from, you guessed it, Audioquest. I was using 12 gauge OFC find stranded cable and Audioquest Type 4 made a noticeable improvement in accuracy or focus, something I'd had no idea about until I heard the difference. 5 bucks a foot though online when you buy off the roll.

I've had to put quite a bit more than 50 hours on a pair of cables in the past to hear the improvement I was hoping for.

In fact, the last set of main cables I purchased took almost 300 hours to finally "break in".

Did your system sound dull and lifeless before the swap? All the time or with specific sources?

I've had very good luck with AQ cabling, albeit interconnects only, so I don't think the cables are necessarily bad. Rather give them a bit more time.

Don't take this the wrong, but I would be thinking a vast improvement in your system could be made by picking up a nicer CDP.

And stick with the cables that sound best to YOUR ears.
