No affiliation but a pretty nice deal for someone interested in some big ol' Altecs.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Selling a PAIR of Altec Lansing Voice Of The Theater speakers model 878A...w/ 8 ohm impedence & High Frequency Attenuation dial.
Wooden cabinets are the Santiago style AL with faux granite top. I bought these speakers in 1972 or 1973 and used them up 'til about 8 years ago and they've been in my garage ever since.
You haul 'em for $350 OBO...

I wish people would quit calling any Altec speaker with a horn Voice of the Theatre.. because they are not.... If they are truely Voice of the Theatre, the tag would say so. Altec was proud of that designation... This speaker is designated a part of their Home Loudspeaker System series..

VOTTs were made for commercial use.. these are home use... (I know this isn't the OP saying this, but the seller sure doesn't know better... )

$350 is a good deal. I'd think they're worth at least three times that much.

Let's call em 'Voice of the Home Theatre' (VOTHT).

Yep.. it is a really good deal at $350.... I kinda wonder if a bidding war will start over them.

I had a chance to hear Sluggo's recently acquired Santiagos last week. Very nice sounding speakers, I could certainly live with them. :music:

If it has been like other CL listing the seller finds out they are worth something then jacks up the $$$$- happends more often than not to me! Damn the bad luck I really want those horns...

Those would be "Valencia's" you listened to last week my Friend !

ha-ha, thnks for the correction pal. They certainly both have similar looking designs, in my defense. Got to get my Altec names and models down - Valencia, Bolero, Santiago.

Looking at some discussion on the Lansing Heritage forum it does appear that the Valenicas have a more respected woofer / cabinet.

And one less to compete with here!

Just kidding. Although I did bump into Watt digging around my Salvation Army haunt...

Yeah, I told my realtor that we could cross off any place more than a mile from a thrift store. :D

But I'm hoping to do a little less thrift haunting and CL watching after the move--unless, of course, the new space cries out for new gear.

Watt- thrifting around here isn't typically very good, although it's an AWESOME place to buy records. Lots of great little indie shops around town.

Drop me a line when you get down here if you feel like getting the nickel tour. (Which always ends with beers on the deck at Mean Eyed Cat)

Will do. This will be my second time living in Austin, though I didn't have the intense interest in stereo equipment that I have now. Don't think I've ever been to the Mean Eyed Cat (though along with the Red Eyed Fly, it sounds like there's an "eyed" animal theme going on down there), but I do look forward to moving back in range of Live Oak, Real Ale, and, of course, Lone Star.
