Auto return (beam) problem on Philips AF-887

Hi,

I have this Philips AF-887 turntable... The auto return is not working properly...there is a breaking of a red beam light at the end of the record that is supposed to trigger the auto return mechanism ... I can only get it to work if I by hand move the arm fast towards the end/center of the record...that way I can trigger the mechanism to work...if I leave the record playing on its own it never stops...

I think its a "electrical problem" something with the electronincs rather than a mechanical problem... what do you think any ideas??

Still waiting for the manual for my 777. Might be something in there on it. I will check it out as soon as download comes available. :smoke:
 
I have an 877 and the service manual for it. I can check and see if there is any information in there on adjustment or alignment or something like that. I think the 887 is like the 877 but with quartz lock(?).

that would be nice, yes its a quartz lock but still its a belt drive TT. I tried to gently clean both lens and the red led but it didnt help :scratch2: maybe its the sensor...
 
I'll pull it out tonight... I had a School Committee meeting last night, then enjoyed dinner out with my wife! :-)

Ok :D ...

It must be the sensor or reflector not sure what its called... the sensor is only reacting to rapid movements/darkness , if I break/cut the beam that reflects in the sensor, if I cut it slowy...nothing happens...

However this TT can be operated also manually, since its got separate start buttons for 33 and 45 rpm and also a separate stop button.

By the way there used to be a great Holland site about vintage Philips gears and they had tons of vintage scans...mainly from the 1970:s anyone remember the addy? its not "mfbfreaks" must have been another site :scratch2:
