Auto return mitsubishi lt-5v not working?

I got a parts machine of of ebay the other day and wasn't expecting too much, however it arrived today and after cleaning and some new belts it's working mostly fine. The only thing that I couldn't get to work is the auto return feature. Anyone here know how to get this working again? I read something about the led sensor needing a new led but I couldn't locate any leds.

The issue is probably the LED. With the back off look at the wiring bundle running over the top of the tonearm carriage: The LED is attached to the black plastic holder you see there affixed with black two screws.

To verify, with the back still off start the TT. Then peek into the slots in the metal which run parallel to the carriage path. When working you should see the light illuminating the pressboard as it goes along.

This is my first post here and I hope that someone can help me out with my question here.

I chose this thread as I got the identical problem as the thread starter. I got my LT-5V about 15 years ago and carefully stored it, unpacked it only a couple of days ago. It had several errors and needed adjustment but I could fix everything myself. It got new belts, new grease, contact spray and a new needle. Today I was able to fix the tracking errors and it plays perfectly now. Only - the auto return doesn't work. The tonearm isn't lifted also. It remains in the runout groove and would play forever. I read the post from ogodei and the LED is working fine.

Btw: the repeat function is the only other thing not working, I suspect it's the same error though as it would include the automatical return from the runout.

Any help would be much appreciated here.

It has been a while since I have last worked on a lt-5v. However IIRC the auto return issue was fixed after replacing the sensor LEDs. Did you adjust everything according to the SM? It's not just one LED there are multiple, I believe it was 4 or 6, but again it's been a while. Quite a pain to disassemble the whole arm assembly but if you are careful it's more than doable.
