What did they do back when the fuel filler was dead center behind the license plate?
I liked those except for the necessity to turn the pump handle upside down.
How much could it cost to put a filler on BOTH sides of a car? I'd rather pay to have THAT feature than 8 cup holders. I hate having to do U-turns in a mobbed with Yukons Sheetz station.
Ron.
yeah gm's behind the plate filler was a feature called "central fueling"...part of the idea being that it didn't matter what side of the pump you were on..it was central...on the other hand it was a huge liability in a rear end collision.rumour is that GM calculated the cost of the predicted lawsuits from injured and burned customers...and decided it was cheaper to leave it be and just pay the lawsuits rather than redesign all thier models that had it
I'm sitting here, feeling very cheated.
I'm on a motorcycle. No arrow on the gauge.
What am I gonna do now!?!

Who starts these myths? Just about every type of 60s/70s car used a fuel filler behind the license plate, at one point or another. The only car of that era with a reputation for fuel fires (Pinto) used a filler located on the left side.

You guys can't remember how to gas your car? Really?
If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right. It is that simple!
This happens for three reasons:You guys can't remember how to gas your car? Really?
