AUX Splitter Volume Offset

Hello, I am using a 3.5mm AUX splitter in my car for two devices into my speakers. The splitter automatically offsets the volume to its own percentages, that being said, how can I control the volume offset when one device feeds audio at the same time as the other device?

Thanks. I am using a phone for music, and a CB radio/scanner that both have separate 3.5mm aux cords that lead into a splitter that plugs into the cars aux port. When a transmission comes in through the CB while music is playing from my phone, it lowers the music on the phone to offset the audio so both the CB and the phone audio are readable, and once the transmission from the CB ends, the phones audio increases back to normal. I would like to know if there are any ways to change the threshold in which the splitter offsets the volume. My main goal is to reduce the amount volume deduction that the phone recieves because it's too drastic for my purposes.
 
Got it, thank you. A splitter as you apparently have is typically used to feed a single output into two inputs. You have a reverse scenario - that can cause some issues because essentially you are tying two outputs together, something normally done via a simple passive or active mixer. I'll have a look to see if I can locate a suitable device.
 
If you want level of one input (music) to drop when another input (CB) has audio present you'll need a more sophisticated device. A stereo dynamic compressor comes to mind, one that has a "Sidechain" input. The effect is known as "ducking", typically used when a DJ talks over the music.

Yes that sounds about right. I bought the splitter from Guitar Center this morning and submitted this post prior to using it at a higher volume, but after using it for a couple hours, the sound quality + the dynamic between both devices just sounds terrible and static. Thank you for clarifying.

I believe I understand the concept, but just to clarify, the device you sent enables me to control the volume of each device?
 
Yes, it is a "passive" mixer that allows several source devices to feed a single output. The idea is to minimize interaction between each input and this is accomplished by adding some amount of isolation via series resistance. Passive means there can only be some signal loss in the process; an 'active" device is better in that it can properly buffer each source device and as well potentially add gain while also providing a buffered output. A passive mixer adjusted correctly will probably suffice for your purpose.
