Avast Anti-Virus Program

If you use Avast anti-virus do you use the free or the upgrade? I've had it quite a while and got a pop up message to renew as my free subscription was running out. I subscribed again for the free and was prompted to upgrade for $19.95. Then, another pop up for just $9.99 for the Avast Pro.

Would you just keep the free?

Most all of them have a free and pay-for version. I use AVG, which is supposed to have higher ratings. When the free expires, just uninstall it, then download the new version.

I just got another year of the free. I guess scan with avast once a week, use Malware Bytes and Windows Firewall plus my router and I ought to be in good shape.

Free version for home and office here. Haven't had a problem. BTW, you can turn off the Avast pop-ups or limit their durations under the settings.

I've switched all my old XP boxes to Avira - which has some occasional popup reminders - but does NOT expire! Handy for machines I only use occasionally.

I use the Avast pay for version and it works better than the AVG on my XP box. Much faster and so far has caught more on a regular basis on mine than AVG on my brother's system. Free version was fine but I like some of the options in the paid for and turning off those pop ups was one of them.

Anti virus software is for wimps. I mean, like ... what's the worst that could

(Avast free here, with an occasional scan using MalwareBytes free)

Like they say , you get what you pay for, you are probably NOT getting all the updates to run a safe computer. once you have to do a complete reinstall the 29.00 bucks i pay once a year to Kaspershy for the PURE suite for 3 computers with all the updates its a no brainer:D

I use the free version of Avast on two of my machines and the paid version on my main machine. I like the paid version a bit better and will upgrade to the paid version on all three when my renewal comes up

Worst virus ever goes by the name of Adobe Flash Player. Just did my third update this month ... doesn't help that they're now in the habit of trying to sneak other crap into the download.
