Avid 103 Loudspeakers

I owned a pair of Avid 100's a while back, but wended up selling them to make room. I always regretted selling them because they had a lovely pure sound.

Speed forward to about 2 months ago, I saw an ad on kijiji stating "Avid speakers, original owner".

I went to check them out, and they were the model 103 in mint condition. The date stamped on the warranty paper on the back said 1974. Also, the badge on the grill is a different version than what I've seen before. It is the Avid name, underlined with a bar with three circles in it.

Oh yeah, the selling price was $40! Not a bad score.

Anyway, speed forward again to this past weekend. I'm out garage sailing, and what do I find? Another set of Avid 103's! This time they are a later set (circa 1978). Again, they are in mint condition and had the original mini speaker stands! Asking price........$10!!!

I guess when it rains, it pours! Both pairs have dark brown speaker grill cloth. I would love to find a pair of funky orange colored grills.

Suffice to say, now I am swimming in Avid speakers!

Nice finds....:thmbsp: Have never heard a pair but many people tell me that are a very nice sounding speaker. Want to hear them someday...

A while back, I had a pair of 103's in a small room with a Harman Kardon 430 receiver and it was one of the sweetest sounding combinations I have ever had. Underrated speakers to be sure...

You won't find a better built pair of speakers, they must be 40+ lbs each. A great find at that price!

Here are pics of the first pair. I haven't even photographed the second pair yet!

I recently got a pair of 100-A's and was really surprised. They sound great.
They sounded clear and smooth to my old ears esp. for a 2-way. Might try 'em as L&R fronts in the HT.
Would love to hear the 103's.
Nice score.

Enjoy the music,
-Mark

I saw a pair recently in a pawn shop. Someone had replaced the woofers with something from Pyle. I figured the chance of finding a set of original woofers was slim, so I passed them up.

Here are pics of the second pair.

P.S. Anyone know where to find an original fuse box for these speakers?
