B&K st 120

Yesterday i listened to a marantz pm 14. It was a beautiful looking and sounding amplifier.
It had a balanced sound and a pleasantly open delivery . But there was some problem with it giving a huge thud to speakers every few minutes and we disconnected it .
Second we listened to was the B&k 120 . We used a diy tubed pre amp.
The amp was good enough and didnot bring our attention to its performance and we simply enjoyed music....

Anyone here who has experience may tell me if i should consider buying it. It wont be expensive. But sounded well.... Good enough to replace the pm14 easily.

Most likely needs it's caps to be changed, it is an older unit. I do have a ST 140 and it's
a great sounding amp once you go over it.

I bought an EX4420, some time back, that also needed the caps (just the small ones) replaced. I had neither the time nor the inclination, so I paid to have it done. The cost was reasonable, and well worth it for a very fine sounding amp.

Many here love the mosfet sound.

Do you guys play your amp with a pre amp or directly feed it via a dac or cell phone bluetooth for volume control.
How much is this amp dependant for its best performance on a good tubed or ss pre amplifier, coz i am always having a derth of dedicated pre amps .

Sacrilege! I use a preamp, none of those digital things like a Dac or bluetooth, oh the pain!
