B&O beomaster some general advice needed

Hi a friend has inherited a Beomaster system, amp, cassette deck, turntable. The turntable is not working, the arm skids off the record straight away. Hooked up another turntable, but I think it was overdriving the phono circuit a bit, although there was something tantalising about the sound quality..any thoughts on a suitable turntable and any particular spec required for speakers? Would love to get this thing going again..

arm sliding off the record frequently indicates that the bonded tip of the needle is missing. You should be able to see that the tip of the needle is missing.

Kinda really hard to know what you need unless we are Beomasters and I don't know B&O gear enough to recommend anything without a model number of what you have. Don't know power output either to recommend a set of speakers.

Considering the limited info I gave, I appreciate any response at all. That could indeed be the problem, I will look closer next time I am there. Thanks for your input. If I can get more details I will add at a later date. Thanks for the welcome!
 
B&O cartridges are Moving Iron types and, although they behave like MMs from a connectivity point of view, they have a lower output than a 'normal' MM. As a result, B&O's phono stages tend to be more sensitive than normal - if you plug a normal MM in, it will sound louder. That said, there still should be plenty of headroom, although this will depend on the specific receiver - a model number would help.
