B&O RX-2 dust cover reinstall help needed

The RX-2 dust cover is same as on the 1800 and several other models but different from the RX.
I removed the "friction pieces" thinking they needed to be off to remove the cover. Now cannot figure out how to put them back together.
The pieces have little notches which fit into slots in the dust cover, so the orientation and how they fit into the cover is clear enough.
However, I don't know where the torsion spring goes relative to the piece Should the spring go between the friction piece and the cover? Or does the friction piece have nothing to do with the spring?

I have read many, many posts on how to reattach the dust cover, but none are specifically for this model, or they all assume the friction pieces are already installed. Here is the best post: https://archivedforum.beoworld.org/forums/t/7735.aspx, but again, this assume everything is already assembled correctly.

The service manual shows the parts but not how they fit together in relation to one another. It does not help that I really don't understand how the spring mechanism is supposed to work with the friction pieces.

When I tried manually closing the dust cover (not with it attached to TT), plastic parts on the inside near hinge snapped off (not good). The spring is clearly under tension as the lid closes, and the friction pieces don't seem to be doing anything.

Attaching picture from the SM showing the parts. Part 1203 is the friction piece. Part 1202 is a spring which is attached to the outside of the dust cover with screw, part 1203. I don't quite understand how that is a spring.

Other picture is my latest attempt, with the torsion spring between the friction piece and the dust cover. I don't know if this is the correct way to install it.

OK, that was more painful than it needed to be. And it comes together only after posting the request for help.

Clue #1: The friction piece does NOT interact with the torsion spring.
Found that on messages in first URL. I guess different versions of the 2000 had different dust covers. The one in the RX-2 SM I have looked more like the dust cover from the 1700. However, from the OP's description, it seemed very much like the RX-2's cover. Undid that "fix".
One additional suggestion: After inserting the friction piece, spring and screw, don't tighten until the dust cover is completely on.

Clue #2: With the dust cover on the TT, re-seat the shafts by closing the lid.
With the dust cover on, the holes were still blocked. The 2nd URL above described the reason and the fix.

Below is copy/paste in case that archived thread is deleted (or archive site removed). He explains as well or better than I can:

Put the lid together (lid, hinge bar, spring, brackets, rollers and the two long rods).
Mount it as far as it will go down (half a hole visible).
Make sure the two rollers are as far up the lid as they will go.

Problem is that the two long rods are now resting on the top rear
rail of the plastic chassis rather than fit into the groove right in front of it and we will have to rearrange them.

Now comes the tricky part;
You need to place two fingers (I used index finger and the next) so
that they press the metal hinge bar backwards and another
finger (I used the thumb) on top of the lid, pressing down and forward
as if you were trying to "close" the lid and at the same time push it forward and downwards.
While doing this, press down on the whole lid assy to make the holes fit.

You need to do both sides at the same time.
Sounds hard and it is at first but with a little practice you can do it in 5 seconds.

Photo shows Beogram 2000 but the above also applies to Beogram 1800, 5000, RX and RX2 models.

With mine, the torsion spring was also blocking the hole, so I pulled on the "legs" of the torsion spring on the dust cover inside to pull them down.
I used different fingers than Martin did. My procedure was
With TT facing forward, take thumb and press on the metal hinge bar. With index and middle fingers, press dust cover downwards and forward. (Do both sides the same way.)
I closed the dust cover completely. Closing part way did not clear the holes. After re-opening dust cover, the holes were still clear.
The bushings did not fit in easily. I re-seated the dust cover twice thinking I did something wrong. However, it was just that the bushings are a very tight fit into the holes.

Finally, set the tension on the spring/friction piece so cover stays open.

Great job and well done in getting it sorted! However, for future reference, there are three rules I live my life by:

(1) Never eat yellow snow
(2) Never test the depth of water with both feet
(3) Never dismantle a Beogram dust cover!!
